INNOQ (Instituto Nacional de Normalização e Qualidade) is the national standards body; Portuguese is the sole official language and is legally required on all consumer product labels. SADC regional harmonisation standards (SQAM — Standardisation, Quality Assurance, Accreditation and Metrology framework) apply for intra-SADC trade. Food and pharmaceutical imports require pre-market approval: pharmaceutical imports are registered with ARIMED (Agência Reguladora de Medicamentos e Tecnologias de Saúde, previously referenced as DNAM — ARIMED is the current operational authority under Ministry of Health). Mozambique benefits from EU-SADC EPA (Economic Partnership Agreement, provisionally applied since 2016) providing zero tariffs on eligible Mozambican exports to the EU.
